Almusal Co. is an example of ways we can innovate local cuisine, as well as uplift local communities.
Exemplifying ‘Farm to Table’ but made accessible, Almusal Co. hopes to create fun ways to cultivate local change. With its target market being millennials & Generation Z, it hopes to reinvent and act as a modern take on traditional classic Filipino Breakfast. It also may appeal to older generations as something nostalgic from childhood.
The brand name Almusal Co. or Almusal Company is a play on words and taken from “Almusal Ko.” Its tagline, Mabilis, Masarap, Masaya ang Umaga talks about starting your day right with the right food. Its symbol or alternative logo is a sun inspired by native patterns.
The main inspiration for Almusal Co. are the colors we associate mornings with, and patterns from local indigenous communities to highlight the marriage of breakfast food & Filipino culture. Patterns & illustrations on the packaging consists of my 2 original drawings, and a typographical pattern making use of words that associate with the brand.
Main typeface, “Maragasa” is a local font by John Maza inspired by the accent marks used to show pronunciation of Filipino words, the pakupyâ accent. Marons is a typeface that reminds one of retro or vintage brands - something very “nostalgic” about it, much like Filipino past-times.
