Illustrations for Sunnysix Active inspired by stories of things that remind friends of home.

My first official brand collaboration was with my friend Sammy’s sustainable activewear brand called Sunnysix. Sunnysix creates amazing products from recycled oceanwaste or plastic, and I was tasked to design a towel and two straps.

For the towel, the initial design of this was actually taken from a doodle I did while conversing with 2 of my friends about what they miss, which is why each element holds a story. I am normally drawn to create symbols that represent our culture as I believe nothing can be more extraordinary than creating pieces that give back to your people even in the smallest of ways.

The strap designs were mainly inspired by doodles ive been doing since I was about 12. Ive been in love with radial patterns because it reminded me of patterns in our universe and in nature.

I get my inspiration from a wide range of things, but it will always depend on who and where I was last before or while creating the illustration. Most of the time the patters come from conversations/kwento with friends. The patterns reflect the stories they tell me which is why i often create more exciting illustrations while someone is talking to me about something exciting. For these two, I drew inspiration from conversations with friends and family wishing to be at the beach.
